Fruit Flies

What are Fruit Flies?

Fruit flies are drawn to overripe, rotting fruits and vegetables in particular. They are drawn to items like drains, garbage disposals, empty bottles and cans, trash bags, cleaning rags, and mop heads, among other things. In essence, they are driven to wet conditions and food waste. Since fruit flies only consume food in surface contact, there is almost no possibility that you may consume these bugs.

Fruit flies frequently enter homes through holes in the walls, broken seals on doors and windows, or eggs put inside grocery store food. Fruit flies may invade your home seemingly out of nowhere, but this is mostly owing to how fast they reproduce and grow.

Type of Flies

Fruit fly eggs are very tiny, and adult fruit flies often lay them inside of fruits or vegetables. Fruit flies can lay up to 500 eggs at a time.

Risks Associated with Fruit Flies

Food Contamination

Horseflies have powerful, cutting mouthparts that slice through skin like scissors to get the blood. In contrast to a mosquito or a tick bite, a horse fly bite hurts a lot.

Transmit Disease

Fruit flies have the ability to spread pathogens from an unclean surface to a clean one. Salmonella, E. coli, and listeria are a few of the germs they might be carrying. Each of these three bacteria causes food poisoning.

Property Damage

Fruit flies are a common nuisance to our property and home. These pests give restless life to humans. It will permanently contaminate ripe vegetables and fruits.

Fast Re-production

Female fruit flies lay approximately 400 eggs, about five at a time. The eggs hatch into larvae after only 12 hours. The most common risk associated with eating fruit fly eggs is that of food poisoning.
